INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FIREFIGHTERS LOCAL 3609
The Mission Fire Fighters Association Local 3609 was organized on July 15, 2004 with 28 members however, this organzation has grown to 47 members and represent 85 percent of the career Fire Fighters on staff. The Mission Fire Fighters Association is affliated with the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF). The Mission Fire FIghters is a non-profit organization 501.(C-5)
The International Association of Fire Fighters, headquartered in Washington, DC, represents more than 292,000 full-time professional fire fighters and paramedics who protect 85 percent of the nation’s population. More than 3,100 affiliates and their members protect communities in every state in the United States and in Canada. The IAFF is one of the most active lobbying organizations in Washington; its Political Action Committee, FIREPAC, is among the top one percent of the more than 4,000 federal PACs in the country.
The Mission Fire Fighters Association has established a Political role as well in the community and is committed to ensuring the citizens of Mission that we will support candidates and lawmakers who are friendly to fire fighters and their issues, regardless of political party, has significantly enhanced the union’s power and influence at all levels of politics.
The Mission Fire Fighters is also active and dedicated to Muscular Dystrophy Association to find a cure. The IAFF’s partnership with MDA has spanned more and more each year, and with a renewed commitment to a comprehensive fundraising process
Fire Fighters have been committed to serve the community well and continue to give back to the citizens. Each year, the Mission Fire Fighters' Association awards three scholarships in the amount of 500.00 each to graduating seniors persuing a higher education. Our Scholarship Committee reviews all applications and awards three seniors the scholarship to assist with their finances.
Every year, a home is lost in our community due to fires that break out and families are evacuated from their homes. The Mission Fire Fighters have also have taken a role to assist families get through hard times with our Victims Assistance Program. Since the inception of the Mission Fire Fighters Association we have been able to provide families a place to stay when they have no where to go.
